Get the desktop app from the official Trezor site, or choose the browser version if you would rather not install anything.

Install and open the app

Run the installer and open Trezor Suite. Desktop users get firmware updates and faster syncing; browser users can go straight to connecting.

Set up your Trezor

Plug in the device and follow the prompts. You will install firmware, choose a PIN, and write down your recovery seed.

Send a small test amount first and confirm it arrives, then transfer the rest. Your keys stay on the device, not on your computer.

Your recovery seed is the wallet

The words shown on the Trezor screen during setup are the wallet itself. The device is only the key to it, which is why losing a device is survivable and losing the seed is not.

Write it down by hand

The 12, 20 or 24 words appear on the Trezor screen once. Copy them onto paper in order, then check them against the device.

Keep it off every screen

Never type the words into a website, an app, an email or a chat, and never photograph them. Cloud notes are not a safe place either.

No one will ever ask

Not support, not the app, not anyone in a forum or on social media. Anyone who asks for your seed is trying to take your funds.

Keep the paper backup somewhere a thief would not look. A safe, a deposit box or a second location beats a desk drawer.

Common questions

Questions before you start

No. The desktop app adds faster syncing and firmware updates, but the browser app does everything the desktop version does. Pick whichever suits the computer you are on.

About 15 minutes from plugging in to a usable wallet, and most of that is writing your recovery seed down carefully. You can pause at any point.

No. Newer models ship with firmware installed so they can be set up without a computer, and Trezor Suite checks the signature before doing anything.

Your funds sit on the blockchain, not on the device. Restore the wallet on a replacement using your recovery seed. Without the seed, they are gone for good.

Only if it has been factory reset and you set it up yourself. A genuine device never arrives with a recovery seed already written out in the box.
